I have to attend Kingston hospital regularly for post melanoma skin checks and post bladder cancer cystoscopies. I would not wish to move from the care supervsion at this hospital unless there were special circumstances requiring specialist attention which were not available here
:)
A very well oraginzed hospital with caring and informed staff.
The paediatric outpatients area is great for kids; lots of toys, bright colours etc. but also some subtle differences (staff very friendly towards children, door handles very high on the doors). We had a 9:20am appointment where our son needed to be weighed and measured before the appointment. This was done quickly and efficiently by the nurse and if anything we were called 5 minutes early. A very good experience, all in all.
I received excellent care in 2008-9 as an in-patient and subsequent follow-up. The ward staff were kind, considerate and caring.
These scores are not higher on account of lowered confidence when admitted twice over weekends.
I was alarmed when surgery for adhesions was eventually stated as so necessary late on a Saturday evening that I was greeted by a clearly tired, blood spattered Iranian Registrar with whom I couldn't communicate. This is not an exaggeration. The outcome was fine but it was very frightening at the time.
I also feel that my late diagnosis for Bowel Cancer could have been picked up earlier at A&E had my history and comments been considered more carefully. I have wondered if an earlier appendectomy may have been a misdiagnosis for the early signs of bowel cancer.
This is set against appalling experience of Dr Bradley and Dr Adeniji of Park Road Surgery Teddington who patronisingly insisted that my symptoms for Bowel Cancer were psychosomatic IBS.

the Children's Outpatient area is a delight. It has been re-decorated recently with a lighthouse and nautical theme and has plenty of books and games as well as the fishtank and a safe outside play area for the children while they wait. The staff are brilliant! They keep the kids amused and let you know how the appointments are running. Also really great to be able to book follow-up appointments then and there and the reception staff are so friendly.
Sometimes the waiting time can be longer than expected but better that then being rushed out the door by the attending.
I have made very positive assessments above as my experience of all aspects of my time in hospital were very good. All staff were caring and considerate and treated me and others in a mature and sympathetic way. I am unsure as to how to answer the question about being involved in decisions made about me as I feel that there is a limit to which this can be the case. Things were explained and I felt confidence in the medical staff that they knew what they were doing. No complaints at all.
Kingston Hospital is a Foundation Trust NHS hospital. As such it is generally well run. Staff are very polite, even though they always seem to be short staffed. I have only been to accompany my elderly mother on her appointments to the Royal Eye Hospital and now the Gynae/Urology but have been very satisfied with her treatment in these departments.
